We all hold important stories and it is up to us to make sure those stories are documented and preserved for our next generations.
Chances are that you may have felt a needling anxiety for a long time. You see stacks of photos that are sitting in boxes waiting for a forever home or worse yet, you haven’t printed any photos in years and everything is on your phone. You know that your grandparent has some amazing stories about their life and you always intend to ask them, but when you see them on special occasions, the timing just isn’t right. Or maybe you are feeling overwhelmed with your own collection of keepsakes or memorabilia and are anticipating adding to your collection as your parents pass things down. You struggle with how to separate sentimentality from what is truly important to preserve. It is that feeling of knowing it is important to collect our family stories but struggling with daily priorities and pressures. You just don’t have the time. Or at least, that is what we tell ourselves.
The good news is that we can start now to gather our story. And more importantly, it doesn’t have to be complicated. It doesn’t have to be scary. It doesn’t have to be overwhelming.
I know from experience and from my own work, that there are hundreds of small steps that we can take that will put us one step further in our legacy writing journey.
You can be the bridge that connects the past to the future.
"Everyone has a story.
Be sure to tell yours..."
